Merit Badge Workbooks

Revised February 2006

Welcome!

Here are Workbooks for all Boy Scout merit badges!  Don’t set your sights just on Eagle!  You can also earn all 20 Eagle Palms!  Always start by getting your unit leader’s approval always read the Merit Badge Pamphlet.

Merit Badges help Scouts learn and grow.  While workbooks are not required, students are more likely to remember facts if they take notes.  We have made every attempt to insure that these workbooks are accurate but please remember that requirements change constantly.  Please send comments, corrections, or ideas to: craig@craiglincoln.com.  Thank you!

Workbooks and Internet Materials

There are many materials on the Internet.  Please remember:

·  Boy Scout Requirements #33215 is your only source for merit badge requirements.

·  Workbooks are not required.  Workbooks are an optional aid.

·  Many workbooks and other Internet materials change the wording of the requirements!

·  No counselor or anyone else can add or subtract from BSA requirements.  For instance:

·  There is no requirement to be First Class to work on any merit badge.

·  There is no requirement to be in 8th grade or age 13 to work on any merit badge.

o The BSA Lifeguard Award requires age 14 or completion of 8th grade.

·  Prerequisites, if any, will be listed in the Merit Badge Pamphlet requirements.

·  If a requirement is to “show” or “demonstrate” you can’t “describe” instead.

Some improvements you will find in these workbooks:

·  We believe that we have listed the current, exact wording without adding or subtracting from the requirements.  No wording was purposely altered.

·  All Workbooks (plus BSA Lifeguard) fit in a zip file that fits on a single floppy.

·  Our largest workbook is 113kB.  Similar files on the Internet are up to 1.5 MB each.

·  These workbooks require as few as half as many pages, saving printing costs & time.

·  Margins are much larger to reduce printer errors and failures.

·  Wider line spacing, increased use of tables, etc. make the workbooks easy to use.

·  Reminders stress that requirements can’t be changed and that workbooks aren’t required.

·  The Scout can write his name on each page so that individual pages can be identified.

·  The Merit Badge name is listed on each workbook page for easy identification.
